Mixing ratio

A mixture is composed of several but at least two components. The mass or volume fractions of each single component are determined by the dimensionless mixing ratio (e.g. 1:3, 2:1, 1:5:3). That means, if for a mixing ratio 1:3 the reference substance, indicated in the first place, is measured e.g. in kilogrammes (mass), all further components must be measured in kilogrammes as well: 1 kg reference substance + 3 kg second component. As the quantities add for mixtures, this will make 4 kg mixed product.
