RAL

The abbreviation RAL bases on the former name of the institute “Reichs-Ausschuss für Lieferbedingungen”. Today: “RAL German Institute for Quality Assurance and Certification” (RAL Deutsches Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung). For simplification of trade, the RAL marking system was introduced in 1927 to define standard colours. There is a four digit number code for each standard colour, e. g. RAL 1000 – green beige, 3011 – brown ret, 9010 – pure white. The RAL standard has developed into a Europe-wide quality standard.
