Bentonite

Millions of years ago sedimentation and decomposition of volcano ashes caused the formation of the volcanic clay Bentonite named after Fort Benton, Wyoming, USA, where it was found first. The mineral composition and the extremely fine grain size of the high quality and naturally occurring Bentonite clay make it so special. The clay minerals allow the grain particles to bind a lot of water so that Bentonite shows a high water absorption capacity (about 10 times the weight) and swelling capacity (about 16 times the size). Bentonite is used e.g. for sealing (swelling tapes - joints, Bentonite mats - brown tank), as lubricant during ground drilling (exploratory drillings, wells, tunnel drive, pipe jacking), and the installation of sheet pile walls, in the field of geothermal energy (protection of thermowells, encasing of problem sites) etc.
